Just what is a Guerrilla Consumer?
We are
offensive consumers, not defensive: pro-active not passive: informed, and assertive. You might say we come from the Mad as hell, not going to take it anymore! school of economics and personal self-defense. We are
the strategy source for the New Frugal Consumer. Our goal is to activate a consumer revolution in health care. True health care reform should be a grass-roots, bottom up movement. We are not going to wait for the top-down, Washington bureaucracy to determine out fate. We can awaken the activist health care consumer and dynamically change the marketplace. Become a Guerrilla Consumer and challenge the system! We forget that Consumers have Power. Its time to use that power. Together I will help
you cut costs, increase productivity, save your time, money and possibly your life.
In 2004 Consumer Driven Health Care really began to take off with the advent of Health Savings Accounts. The whole concept of consumer driven health care is based on the introduction of basic laws of supply and demand into the health care marketplace. In plain English, this means that we should be able to shop for health care the same way we shop for electronics, cars, food and clothing. We know prices before we consume and are able to balance price, quality and convenience. We make rational financial decisions that are based on our own best interest. About 11 million of us have enrolled in some form of H.S.A. since then. However, we are just scratching the surface.
The next generation of consumer driven health care is the Guerrilla Consumer. Our goal is to step up the activism in our health care shopping and buying patterns. We want to be shrewd with our dollars, taking advantage of every opportunity to defend our budget.
The Health Care Consumer Self Defense and Survival Guide – is your Guerrilla Consumer guide to the most practical ways of avoiding high prices, wasted time, and dangerous medicine. This booklet is the distillation of over 14 years of teaching employees how their health plan actually works: how to avoid traps/common mistakes: where to find deals: how to negotiate: when to plan elective procedures: and strategies that will keep you out of the ER and Urgent Care Centers. My experience has also been gained as a cancer patient, brain tumor patient, and hospital advocate to clients and family alike. My own mother was one of the 100,000 patients who die annually in the United States from hospital-borne infection. That is Right! The hospital can be one of the deadliest places you can be.
